Ten years after the release of her multi-platinum debut recording Eye to the Telescope which included the mega-hits “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See”, Tunstall put her musical career on hold following the death of her father and a divorce, and moved to Venice Beach, California to quietly rebuild her life.
In an interview with The Daily Mail in 2013, Tunstall said “I was a Rock-n-Roll cliché. I had everything and wasn’t happy.”
In September 2016, Tunstall released her sixth studio recording, KIN, inspired by her journey of self-discovery and her new family of friends. The music is Folk/Pop, influenced by the anthemic choruses of Fleetwood Mac, and the introspection of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. “It feels like a new life – like something got burned in the fire” she says, “and this is the phoenix that came out of it.”
