Criteria for the In Person Audition or Review

 

Instrumental Music (All Instruments)

The work of each student will be given an objective review by the adjudicators as to how they fulfill each of the following criteria:

 Personal Solo(s) 

          Rhythm/Tempo/Fluency -- applicant plays correct rhythms, plays in time, no pauses or restarts

          Technical Accuracy -- applicant plays with precise technical skills written in solo

          Musicality/Tone/Intonation -- applicant plays with phrase direction, characteristic instrument
          sound, pitches in tune with stylistic considerations

Prepared Ensemble Excerpt(s)

Rhythmic Sight Reading

           
            Rhythm/Tempo/Fluency -- applicant plays correct rhythms, plays in time, no pauses or restarts

Melodic Sight Reading

            Rhythm/Tempo/Fluency -- applicant plays correct rhythms, plays in time, no pauses or restarts

            Pitch Accuracy -- applicant plays written pitches accurately

            Musicality/Character -- Applicant plays with phrase direction, a full awareness of style and with
            requested musical character.


Interview
Applicants may be asked questions such as "how will you contribute to/have a positive influence on your community" or other questions which are relevant to the Instrumental Music discipline and an applicant's involvement in their art form.  An ideal applicant will cite specific instances in their answers to these questions.
