Southern Friedthe second-largest poetry festival in the United States, celebrates poetry, spoken word, and community outreach.  

Teams representing 32 cities meet for a four-day exhibition of poetic skill, writing workshops, themed open mics, and community service projects.

Southern Fried's mission is three-pronged:

  • Serve the community through educational, theatrical, and literary programs
  • Nurture, support and showcase regional, national and international poets and writers, as well as actors, musicians, and other artists
  • Honor the creative genius of the South as a spiritual home for artists

Louisville, KY will host the 2017 festival with events taking place at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts (501 W. Main Street) and KMAC Kentucky Museum for Art and Craft (715 W. Main).

Southern Fried competing poets strive to represent all races, colors, creeds, and gender identities.

Events include a Haiku Death Match, Hip Hop Open Mic, Nerd Poetry Slam, Queer Poetry Slam, and Erotic Open Mic.  

Purchasing an All-Access Pass through The Kentucky Center Ticket Service is the ONLY WAY to attend the Turndown Cypher, Workshops, and Slam Master Slam. 

 All-Access Passes are $45, Finals tickets are $15, and individual event tickets are $10, fees apply. All events are general admission and seating is first-come, first-served. Please note that while All-Access Passes guarantee entry to all festival events, the pass does not guarantee seating an any event.
